Bone graft and sinus lift cost in Dubai — what drives the price

Patients planning implants are often surprised to learn that they may need grafting first. Understanding what drives the cost helps you plan your overall implant budget and compare treatment plans fairly.

Bone graft and sinus lift cost in Dubai — Manhal Medical Center, Dubai
Quick answer

The cost of a bone graft or sinus lift in Dubai depends on the type of procedure (socket preservation, ridge augmentation, crestal or lateral sinus lift), how much bone is needed, the graft and membrane materials, imaging, and whether implants are placed at the same visit. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, oral surgeon Dr. Moataz Al-Khan and implantologist Dr. Manhal Helfawee provide a written, itemised plan after examination and CBCT assessment.

Key facts

  • Cost depends on technique and graft size
  • Materials and membranes vary
  • CBCT imaging guides the plan
  • Compare what each quote includes
  • Written, itemised plan after examination

Type of grafting procedure

Grafting covers several procedures of different complexity. Socket preservation, done at the time of extraction, is usually the simplest. A crestal (internal) sinus lift, performed through the implant site when there is moderate bone height, is less extensive than a lateral sinus lift, which opens a small window in the side of the sinus to place a larger graft. Ridge augmentation ranges from small guided bone regeneration around an implant to larger block grafts or ridge splitting. Each differs in surgical time, materials and follow-up, and the technique needed is decided from your CBCT scan rather than chosen in advance.

Graft size and materials

The amount of bone that must be rebuilt directly affects how much graft material and membrane are needed. Materials themselves vary: your own bone (autograft) avoids material cost but adds a second surgical site; processed donor (allograft), bovine (xenograft) or synthetic materials differ in price and handling; and membranes range from resorbable collagen to reinforced or titanium meshes that may need a second procedure to remove. Some cases also use fixation screws or pins. Your surgeon will explain which materials are proposed and why, and you can ask about alternatives, including for personal or religious preferences regarding material origin.

Imaging, anaesthesia and follow-up

A CBCT 3D scan is usually needed before grafting to measure bone and locate the sinus and nerves, and another scan may be taken before implant placement to confirm healing. Grafting at Manhal is performed under local anaesthesia. Prescriptions such as antibiotics, pain relief and rinses, plus review appointments and suture removal, may form part of the treatment. When comparing quotes, check whether imaging, follow-up visits and medication are included, and whether the plan covers the graft alone or also the implant and crown that follow. A clear, itemised plan avoids surprises later.

How grafting fits into your implant budget

Grafting is one stage of a larger plan. The overall implant budget usually includes consultation and imaging, any extractions, grafting or sinus lift, the implant itself, the abutment and the crown or bridge. Placing an implant at the same time as a graft can reduce the number of surgical visits in some cases, while staged treatment may be safer for larger defects. Alternatives such as shorter implants or tilted implants can sometimes reduce or avoid grafting; they are discussed if suitable. Many UAE insurance policies cover implants and grafting partially or not at all, so checking your policy and requesting pre-approval is wise.

Getting a written plan at Manhal

At Manhal Medical Center, Office 101, SMJ1 Building, central Dubai, Dr. Moataz Al-Khan, specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon (DHA licence 00048618-005), and Dr. Manhal Helfawee, consultant implantologist (DHA licence 00169366-001), examine you, review a CBCT scan and explain whether grafting is truly needed, which technique is suitable, and any alternatives. You then receive a written, itemised treatment plan listing each stage, so you know exactly what is included before you decide. The team can provide documents for insurance pre-approval. Consultations are available in English and Arabic; call +971 4 328 4560 or WhatsApp +971 52 987 2411.

When a tooth has been missing for a long time, the jawbone shrinks. Bone grafting rebuilds width or height so an implant can be placed securely; a sinus lift adds bone beneath the sinus floor in the upper back jaw.

Patients visit us from Al Safa, Al Wasl, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz, City Walk, Business Bay, Downtown Dubai and Al Barsha — and from Sharjah and the wider UAE.

Why can’t I get a price over the phone?

The technique and amount of graft can only be determined after examination and a 3D scan, so a reliable estimate needs an assessment.

Is a sinus lift always needed for upper implants?

No. It depends on bone height under the sinus; shorter or tilted implants may avoid it in some cases.

Does insurance cover bone grafting?

Coverage varies widely; many policies cover it partially or not at all, so check and request pre-approval.

Is grafting done at the same time as the implant?

Sometimes, if the implant can be stable; larger defects are usually grafted first.

Will I pay for a second scan?

A follow-up scan before implant placement may be needed; your itemised plan will state this.

How much does a sinus lift cost in Dubai and what affects the price?

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
