Hollywood Smile in Dubai for US Patients

A Hollywood smile treats most of the visible teeth at once, which makes planning and time on the ground especially important for patients flying in from the US. This page explains how Manhal Medical Center approaches it.

Hollywood Smile in Dubai for US Patients

What is involved

A Hollywood smile usually means veneers or crowns on the teeth visible when you smile, commonly eight to ten in each arch, often combined with whitening, gum contouring or replacement of old restorations. The term is popular in the Middle East; in the US you are more likely to hear smile makeover. Because many teeth are treated together, the work starts with a careful assessment of gum health, bite and existing restorations, and some patients need fillings or gum care before anything cosmetic begins.

Choosing the look

Very white, uniform smiles are fashionable, but they do not suit everyone. Shade, translucency, tooth length and the shape of the edges all decide whether a smile looks natural or obviously restored. Send photographs of smiles you like with your records, and expect a frank discussion during the design appointment. A mock-up lets you see the proposed result against your own face before any preparation. Taking your time at this stage, and asking questions, helps you avoid regret later.

How long to plan for

Expect around two to three weeks in Dubai for a full-smile case, plus jet lag recovery at the start. Some cases are split into two trips, especially where gum treatment, implants or replacement of missing teeth are involved. Because the return journey takes 13 to 16 hours, the clinic schedules a review a few days after fitting and before you fly. Book your return flight only after the provisional plan is agreed, and keep a buffer of a day or two.

Temporaries and daily life

Between preparation and fitting you wear temporary restorations. They are made to look presentable for photographs and dinners out, but they are not as strong as the final work. Avoid very hard foods and sticky sweets, and do not bite directly into things like apples. Staining drinks such as coffee and red wine should be limited. If a temporary breaks, contact the clinic on WhatsApp at +971 52 987 2411. Most patients find temporaries easy to manage for a week or so.

When orthodontics should come first

If teeth are significantly crowded or rotated, or the bite is off, forcing alignment with veneers alone can mean removing a lot of healthy tooth structure. In such cases orthodontic treatment first, often Invisalign under Consultant Orthodontist Dr. Moaiyad Pacha, may give a better long-term result. This adds months, and US patients need a realistic plan for aligner reviews. The clinic will tell you if this applies and discuss whether some stages could be supervised closer to home.

Back in the US

You return with a treatment summary listing each restoration, the materials, shades and FDI tooth numbers, together with photographs and X-rays. Your US dentist can provide cleanings and check-ups and monitor gum health around the margins. A night guard is often advised. Restorations are durable but not permanent, and repairs may be needed over the years. US dental plans typically treat full-smile veneers as cosmetic, so check what, if anything, your plan covers before you commit.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
