Recovery timeline
- First 24–48 hours
- Bite on gauze for 30–45 minutes
- No rinsing, spitting or straws
- Cold compresses on the cheek
- Soft, lukewarm food on the other side
- The first week
- Gentle salt-water rinses from day two, after meals
- Resume gentle brushing near the area
- Stitches dissolve or are removed at review
What to avoid
- Smoking for at least 72 hours
- Alcohol while on painkillers
- Hot drinks on day one
- Poking the socket with tongue or fingers
Contact the clinic promptly if you notice
- Pain worsening after day three (possible dry socket)
- Heavy bleeding
- Swelling spreading or difficulty swallowing
- Fever
