Heat rash treatment in Dubai — prickly heat relief and prevention for adults and babies
Heat rash is very common in the UAE, especially during the long, humid summer, after outdoor work or exercise, and in babies who are dressed too warmly. It can be uncomfortable and disrupt sleep, and parents and adults alike want fast relief and practical ways to stop it returning.

Heat rash (prickly heat or miliaria) happens when sweat ducts become blocked and sweat leaks into the skin, causing small itchy or prickly bumps; it usually settles within days once the skin is cooled and kept dry. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, specialist dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis assesses heat rash that is persistent, infected or recurring and checks for other conditions that can look similar.
Key facts
- Blocked sweat ducts cause prickly bumps
- Cooling the skin is the key to relief
- Loose cotton clothing helps prevention
- Babies are prone when overdressed
- Fever, confusion or dizziness in heat need urgent care
What causes heat rash
Heat rash develops when the sweat ducts become blocked, so sweat cannot reach the skin surface and leaks into surrounding tissue. This is most likely in hot, humid weather, during heavy exercise or outdoor work, when wearing tight or synthetic clothing, or under bandages, backpacks or heavy creams. Babies are especially prone because their sweat ducts are still developing, and they are often overdressed or wrapped. Fever, bed rest in a warm room and some medicines can also contribute. In the UAE summer, moving between air-conditioned buildings and hot, humid outdoor air can make the skin sweat heavily in short bursts.
Types and how heat rash looks
Miliaria crystallina is the mildest type, with tiny clear, fluid-filled blisters that break easily, often seen in newborns or after sunburn. Miliaria rubra, the classic prickly heat, causes small red bumps that itch or prickle, usually on the neck, chest, back, armpits, groin and skin folds. Miliaria pustulosa occurs when the bumps become filled with pus-like fluid. Miliaria profunda, a deeper and less common type, causes firm, skin-coloured bumps after repeated episodes and may reduce sweating in the area, which can increase the risk of heat exhaustion. On darker skin, the redness may be less obvious.
Quick relief at home
The most important step is to cool the skin and stop sweating. Move to a cooler, air-conditioned or well-ventilated place, remove tight or heavy clothing, and take a cool shower, then let the skin air-dry or pat it gently. Wear loose, light cotton clothing and avoid heavy, greasy creams that can block the sweat ducts further. Calamine lotion may soothe itching, and a mild steroid cream may be suggested for a short time in adults if itching is intense, ideally after medical advice. Avoid scratching, which can break the skin and lead to infection. Most heat rash settles within a few days.
Heat rash in babies
In babies, heat rash often appears on the neck, face, chest, armpits and nappy area. Dress your baby in light, breathable cotton layers suited to the room temperature rather than wrapping them warmly, and avoid placing them in direct sun or hot cars. Keep the room comfortably cool, give a lukewarm bath, and let the skin dry naturally. Avoid thick ointments on the rash. If your baby has a fever, is unusually drowsy, irritable or feeding poorly, or the rash does not fade quickly when the baby is cooled, seek medical advice promptly, because other conditions, including infections, can look similar.
Prevention and when to see a doctor
Prevent heat rash by staying in cool, shaded or air-conditioned spaces during the hottest hours, wearing loose, moisture-wicking or cotton clothing, showering after exercise or outdoor work, and avoiding heavy creams on hot days. Drink plenty of fluids during the UAE summer. See a doctor if the rash lasts more than a few days, becomes painful, swollen or crusted, contains pus, or keeps coming back. Seek urgent care for fever, chills, headache, confusion, dizziness or vomiting in hot conditions, which may signal heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Dr. Abdullah Anis can also check for fungal infection, folliculitis or eczema.
Eczema and psoriasis are chronic inflammatory skin conditions. Good control comes from an accurate diagnosis, a clear plan for flares, and daily skin care that suits the UAE climate.

Reasonable price and great location. Great experience so far I had my laser done and very happy with the result. So I decided to purchase another package :)Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.this was my first visit to Dr Manhal after recomendation from my husband, i needed his consultation after i visited more than one doctor in Lebanon with no luck, i am glad i visited him, he is very professional the clinic is very clean with great staff
