Lip filler dissolving in Dubai — correcting migration or overfilled lips safely

Lip filler can migrate over time, creating a shelf or 'duck lip' above the border, or build up after repeated top-ups until the lips look heavier than intended. Many people want to start again with a softer, more natural result.

Lip filler dissolving in Dubai — Manhal Medical Center, Dubai
Quick answer

Lip filler made of hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with hyaluronidase injections to correct migration above the lip line, lumps or an overfilled look, with most of the effect visible within a few days. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis assesses your lips, dissolves filler where appropriate and advises when a redo is safe.

Key facts

  • Hyaluronic acid lip filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase
  • Allergy history is checked before treatment
  • Swelling usually settles within 24–48 hours
  • Wait about two weeks before considering a redo
  • White or dusky skin after filler is an emergency

Why lip filler migrates or looks overfilled

Lips are a very mobile area, constantly moving with speech and expression. Over time, filler placed too superficially, in large volumes or repeatedly topped up before the previous product has settled can spread beyond the intended border. This often appears as a puffy ridge above the upper lip, blurred lip definition or a heavy look when smiling. Lumps can also develop if the product was placed unevenly. Because hyaluronic acid filler can last longer in the lips than many people expect, layers can accumulate. Recognising migration early makes correction simpler and helps plan a more natural result.

How lip filler dissolving works

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. Before treatment, Dr. Abdullah Anis reviews your filler history, examines the lips and checks for allergies, including bee or wasp sting allergy, because hyaluronidase can rarely cause allergic reactions. A small test may be considered in some patients. The enzyme is injected precisely into the areas of migrated or excess filler using fine needles. The lips are cleaned beforehand and the procedure is usually brief. Some people need a single session, while others with larger or older deposits may need a second treatment after reassessment.

What to expect after dissolving

Swelling and mild bruising are common for 24 to 48 hours, and the lips may look uneven while the enzyme works. Most of the dissolving effect is usually visible within a few days. Lips may look thinner than you remember at first, partly because filler had gradually stretched the tissue over time and partly because your natural lip volume is now visible again. Cold compresses and avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for a day help reduce swelling. Dr. Abdullah Anis arranges a review to check the result before any decision about further treatment.

When and how to redo lip filler safely

After dissolving, it is generally advisable to wait around two weeks, sometimes longer, before considering new lip filler, so swelling has fully settled and the true baseline can be seen. A fresh approach often uses smaller volumes, placed at appropriate depths, with attention to proportion between upper and lower lip and the rest of the face. Gradual, staged treatment allows adjustments without overfilling. Some patients decide they prefer their natural lips after dissolving. The decision is yours, and a written plan helps you understand options, aftercare and expected longevity. There is no need to rush.

Red flags after lip filler

Lip filler and dissolving are medical procedures. Seek immediate care if, after lip filler, you notice severe pain, skin that turns white, blue or dusky, a mottled pattern, or blisters, because these can be signs of a blocked blood vessel, which needs urgent treatment with hyaluronidase. Also seek prompt help for increasing swelling with heat and redness, fever, or any difficulty breathing or swallowing after an injection. These situations are uncommon but time-sensitive. For non-urgent concerns, such as lumps or asymmetry, book an assessment rather than adding more filler on top.

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid filler. It is used to correct overfilled lips, migrated filler, lumps or the bluish Tyndall effect under the eyes.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
