What CO2 resurfacing changes

Years of sun, heat and air-conditioning show first in texture: a rough surface, pores that look larger, fine lines around the eyes and mouth and skin that no longer reflects light evenly. Fractional CO2 laser treats this by creating microscopic columns of controlled injury. The surrounding skin heals them quickly and lays down new collagen, so over the following months the skin looks tighter, smoother and more refined.

It is a medical treatment with real downtime, which is why it gives more change than facials or light peels. Dr. Abdullah Anis sets density and depth for each area, gentler on the neck and around the eyes, and tells you plainly when a lighter treatment would suit you better.

Is CO2 resurfacing right for you?

  • You want a visible change in texture or lines, not only a glow
  • You can take about a week away from work or social events
  • You can keep out of direct sun during healing and use sunscreen daily
  • Your skin is not tanned and has no active acne or infection

Better options first

  • Melasma or hormonal pigmentation as the main concern
  • Deep wrinkles caused mainly by muscle movement
  • Significant sagging, which resurfacing does not lift
  • No time for downtime — a peel or microneedling may suit you better

Choosing the depth: light, medium or deep

Depth and density are adjusted for each area and skin type. This is how the trade-off works.

SettingBest forSocial downtimeSessions
Light fractionalDullness, mild texture, early linesAbout 3–5 days2–3
Medium fractionalTexture, pores, fine lines, sun damageAbout 5–7 days1–3
Deeper fractionalMore marked lines and textureAbout 7–10 days1–2

Darker skin is usually treated with lower density and longer intervals to reduce the risk of dark marks.

Skin tone, sun and safety in Dubai

CO2 resurfacing can be used in many skin tones, but olive, Arabic and darker skin carry a higher risk of temporary dark patches after laser, and Dubai's sun adds to it. Dr. Anis lowers that risk with conservative density, pigment-control preparation where needed, no treatment on tanned skin and strict daily sunscreen afterwards. Many patients choose the cooler months or a week they can stay indoors.

Other risks include prolonged redness, infection and cold sore reactivation (preventive medicine can be prescribed), and rarely scarring. Your plan explains each one and what to watch for. See aftercare after laser treatment.

Questions patients ask

Patients visit us from Al Safa, Al Wasl, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz, City Walk, Business Bay, Downtown Dubai and Al Barsha — and from Sharjah and the wider UAE.

How long is the downtime after CO2 laser resurfacing?

With medium settings, expect redness and swelling for two to three days, then flaking until around day five to seven. Most people return to work and social plans after about a week; deeper settings can take up to ten days. Pinkness may last a few weeks and can be covered with make-up once healed.

How many resurfacing sessions will I need?

Many people need one to three sessions, four to eight weeks apart. Lighter settings need more sessions with less downtime; deeper settings need fewer with more downtime. Dr. Abdullah Anis agrees the balance with you based on your skin type, goals and schedule.

Does CO2 laser tighten skin?

It firms the skin surface and improves fine lines and crepiness as collagen rebuilds over several months. It does not lift sagging skin or replace lost volume, which may need other treatments. Dr. Anis explains what is realistic at your consultation.

Will CO2 laser shrink my pores?

Pores often look smaller and the surface finer after resurfacing because the skin around them firms. Pores do not disappear, and oily skin usually needs medical skincare to keep the result. Results last best with daily sunscreen.

Is CO2 resurfacing safe for darker skin?

It can be, with lower density, preparation and strict sun protection. Darker skin has a higher risk of temporary dark marks after laser, especially in the UAE. If CO2 is not the safest option for your skin, a peel or microneedling may be suggested instead.

Can CO2 laser treat sun spots and melasma?

Fractional CO2 helps sun-damaged texture and some sun spots, but it is usually not the first treatment for melasma, which can worsen with heat. Pigment is diagnosed first, and melasma is treated with creams, gentle peels and other methods.

How long do the results last?

Collagen built after resurfacing stays, but skin continues to age and the sun keeps damaging it. With daily sunscreen and good skincare, results can last for years; some people choose a lighter maintenance session after a year or more.

Can I combine resurfacing with Botox or fillers?

Yes, but usually on separate days. Anti-wrinkle injections soften movement lines and fillers restore volume, while laser improves the surface. Dr. Anis plans the order so each treatment works at its best.

How much does CO2 laser resurfacing cost in Dubai?

Cost depends on the area, depth and number of sessions. A full face costs more than the eye area alone. Manhal gives a written, itemised plan after assessment, with packages quoted in writing. Ask on WhatsApp for today's prices.

When is the best time of year for CO2 resurfacing in Dubai?

Treatment is possible all year if you can avoid direct sun during healing. Many patients prefer the cooler months, or plan a week at home, and avoid travel to sunny destinations or beach trips straight after.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
