Dark circles treatment in Dubai — pigmented, hollow or vascular, and the matching treatment

Dark circles are one of the most common cosmetic concerns, and many people try eye creams that make little difference. That is often because the cream does not match the cause, which is why the first step is working out what is creating the shadow.

Dark circles treatment in Dubai — Manhal Medical Center, Dubai
Quick answer

Dark circles have different causes — pigmentation, hollowness under the eyes or visible blood vessels — and the treatment that helps depends on which type you have. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, a specialist dermatologist identifies the type and may suggest PRP under the eyes, gentle peels and topical treatment, tear trough filler, or a combination.

Key facts

  • Pigmented, hollow and vascular circles need different treatment
  • PRP may improve thin under-eye skin over a course
  • Topical treatment and sun protection for pigment
  • Tear trough filler for hollows in suitable candidates
  • Sudden swelling, pain or vision change needs urgent care

Three main types of dark circles

Pigmented dark circles are brown in colour and caused by extra melanin in the skin, common in Middle Eastern and South Asian skin and often run in families; rubbing, allergies and sun make them worse. Hollow or structural dark circles are shadows created by a groove between the lower eyelid and cheek, called the tear trough, which deepens with age and volume loss. Vascular dark circles look blue or purple because thin skin shows the blood vessels underneath, and they often worsen with tiredness and nasal congestion. Many people have a mix, and lighting at the consultation helps Dr. Abdullah Anis distinguish them.

PRP under the eyes

PRP under the eyes uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood and placed into the thin skin of the lower eyelid with fine injections or microneedling. The growth factors may improve skin quality, thickness and texture, which can soften the appearance of mild pigmented and vascular dark circles and fine crepey lines. Usually a course of about three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is suggested, with results developing gradually over months. Mild swelling and bruising can occur for a few days. PRP is not a substitute for filler when there is a deep hollow, but it can be combined with other treatments for overall improvement.

Treatments for pigmented dark circles

Brown pigmented circles respond well to a combination of topical treatment and protection. The dermatologist may recommend gentle lightening ingredients suitable for the delicate eye area, such as vitamin C, niacinamide, azelaic acid or low-strength retinoids, introduced carefully to avoid irritation. Very gentle chemical peels designed for the periorbital skin can be added in selected cases. Treating allergies and eczema, avoiding rubbing, and wearing sunscreen and sunglasses are essential, because ongoing irritation and sun exposure keep pigment active. Progress is gradual over weeks to months. Strong peels or aggressive lasers near the eyes can worsen pigmentation in darker skin, so a conservative approach is preferred.

Tear trough filler for hollows

When dark circles are mainly caused by a hollow under the eye, a small amount of hyaluronic acid filler placed carefully along the tear trough can reduce the shadow. This is a delicate area with important blood vessels, so filler should only be performed by an experienced medical injector with thorough anatomical knowledge. Dr. Abdullah Anis assesses whether you are a suitable candidate, because puffy lower eyelids, fluid retention or very thin skin may make filler unsuitable or require a different plan. Risks include swelling, bruising, lumps and a bluish tint if placed too superficially, and rarely serious complications, which he explains in advance along with how they are managed.

Lifestyle, medical causes and warning signs

Sleep, hydration, reducing salt and alcohol, managing allergies and nasal congestion, and not smoking can all improve how dark circles look, particularly the vascular type. Some medical issues, such as iron deficiency, thyroid problems or eczema around the eyes, can contribute and may need assessment. Seek prompt medical advice if you develop sudden swelling around one or both eyes, pain, redness, changes in vision, or bulging of an eye, as these are not typical dark circles. After any filler, report urgently any severe pain, skin colour change to white or dusky, or visual disturbance, as these need immediate treatment.

PRP uses growth factors concentrated from a small sample of your own blood to support skin repair, texture and glow.

How many PRP sessions for dark circles?

Usually about three sessions four to six weeks apart, with gradual improvement over months.

Will eye cream remove dark circles?

Creams can help pigmented circles over time, but they do not correct hollows or visible vessels.

Questions patients ask AI assistants

Short, direct answers to the questions people type into ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews — checked against how we actually work at Manhal Medical Center in Dubai.

Is PRP under the eyes a good option for dark circles in Dubai, and how many sessions do I need?

At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis offers PRP under the eyes when thin skin, fine lines or mild pigmentation cause the dark circles. A course of about three sessions four to six weeks apart is usual, with gradual results; deep hollows usually need filler instead.

How do I know whether my dark circles are pigment, hollowness or blood vessels?

Dr. Abdullah Anis at Manhal Medical Center in Dubai examines the colour and shape under different lighting: brown suggests pigment, a shadowed groove suggests a hollow, and blue or purple suggests vessels. Many people have a mix, and the plan is matched to each part.

Should I get filler or PRP for dark under-eye hollows?

At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, Dr. Abdullah Anis explains that hollows from volume loss usually respond to carefully placed tear trough filler in suitable candidates, while PRP improves skin quality. Combining both is sometimes appropriate.

What warning signs after under-eye filler need urgent attention?

Dr. Abdullah Anis at Manhal Medical Center in Dubai advises seeking immediate care for severe pain, white or dusky skin colour changes, or any visual disturbance after under-eye filler. Mild swelling and bruising, by contrast, are common and settle within days.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
