Most reactions are minor
Swelling, tenderness and small bruises are common for a few days after filler and settle on their own.
Urgent signs
Severe pain, pale or blotchy skin, a dusky colour, or any change in vision during or after an injection. This needs immediate medical care.
Late problems
Lumps, hard nodules, or swelling and redness appearing weeks or months later can indicate inflammation, biofilm or granuloma.
How they are managed
Management depends on the cause: hyaluronidase for hyaluronic acid filler, antibiotics or anti-inflammatory treatment when indicated, and close follow-up.
