Visit 1: consultation, records and planning

Photographs, short videos of your smile and a digital intraoral scan are recorded. Gum disease, decay, old leaking fillings or grinding are identified, because they must be addressed before veneers. You discuss shape, shade and how natural or bright you want the result to be, and whether conservative options such as whitening or alignment could reduce the work required. Afterwards you receive a written, itemised plan describing the number of teeth, materials and visits.

Visit 2: smile design and trial smile

Using your photographs and scan, a digital smile design and wax-up are prepared, which may take a few days with the laboratory. At the second visit, a trial smile — a temporary tooth-coloured mock-up made from the wax-up — is placed over your teeth without drilling. You can see the planned length, width and shape in your own mouth, speak with it, take photos and request changes. This step is particularly important if you want a natural result or are unsure about the design. When the design is approved, it becomes the blueprint for tooth preparation, temporaries and the final ceramics. Any preparatory treatment, such as gum care or fillings, is completed before the next stage.

Visit 3: preparation and temporary veneers

At the preparation visit, the teeth are numbed and shaped as conservatively as the design allows, often guided by the trial-smile template so only the necessary enamel is removed. The shade is recorded carefully in natural light, and a final digital scan or impression is sent to the dental laboratory. Temporary veneers based on the approved design are then fitted so you leave with an attractive, functional smile. Temporaries are a test drive: you can check how the shape feels when speaking and eating, and report anything you would like adjusted. Preparation for a full arch typically takes a few hours, depending on the number of teeth.

Laboratory time and Visit 4: try-in and bonding

The laboratory usually needs around one to two weeks to craft the final ceramic veneers, depending on the material, the number of teeth and the laboratory schedule. At the fitting visit, temporaries are removed and the veneers are tried in with a try-in paste so you and Dr. Manhal Helfawee can check shade, shape and fit before anything is permanent. Once approved, each veneer is bonded with careful isolation, excess cement is removed, and the bite is checked and adjusted. This appointment often takes several hours for a full smile. Mild sensitivity or a slightly unfamiliar feel when speaking can occur for a few days.

Review visit and planning for visitors

A review is usually arranged about one to two weeks after fitting to check the gums, bite and comfort, polish any rough areas and take impressions or scans for a night guard if you grind. If you are visiting Dubai, discuss timing at the first consultation: with no preparatory treatment needed, records, design, preparation and final fitting can often be organised within around two to three weeks, but rushing lab work or skipping the trial smile is not advisable.
