Best kids dentist in Dubai: how to choose a dentist your child will trust

Parents in Dubai often search for a kids dentist when their child has a first tooth, a toothache, or simply needs a check-up. A positive early experience shapes how children feel about dental care for life, so choosing the right dentist matters.

Best kids dentist in Dubai: how to choose a dentist your child will trust — Manhal Medical Center, Dubai
Quick answer

The best kids dentist in Dubai for your family is a licensed dentist who is patient and gentle with children, focuses on prevention, explains things to both child and parent and knows when to refer to a paediatric specialist or orthodontist. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, general dentist Dr. Fariba Alnoory provides children's check-ups, cleaning, preventive care and fillings with a calm approach.

Key facts

  • First visit around age one or when the first teeth appear
  • Gentle techniques and short visits build trust
  • Fluoride varnish and sealants help prevent decay
  • Orthodontic assessment is often suggested around age seven
  • Dr. Fariba Alnoory: gentle children's check-ups, 14+ years

Start early and keep it positive

Children's first dental visit is usually recommended around their first birthday or when the first teeth appear. Early visits are short and gentle: the dentist checks the teeth and gums, looks for early signs of decay and gives parents advice on brushing, fluoride toothpaste, bottles at night, snacking and teething. Regular check-ups, typically every six months, let the child become familiar with the clinic before any treatment is needed. A dentist who greets your child by name, explains instruments in simple words and lets them sit in the chair at their own pace helps build trust. Parents' calm attitude at home also helps children approach visits without fear.

Gentle behaviour management

Good children's dentistry relies on communication more than speed. Techniques such as tell-show-do, where the dentist explains a step, shows it on a finger or toy and then does it, positive praise, short appointments and agreed stop signals help children cope. The dentist should adapt to your child's age, temperament and any special needs, and involve you in deciding whether a parent stays in the room. Ask how the dentist manages a nervous or uncooperative child and when they would pause and try again another day rather than force treatment. For very anxious children or extensive treatment, referral to a paediatric dentist may be the right choice.

Prevention comes first

Tooth decay is one of the most common childhood conditions, yet it is largely preventable. A prevention-focused dentist assesses your child's decay risk and may recommend fluoride varnish, fissure sealants on newly erupted back teeth and practical diet advice, such as limiting sugary drinks and juices between meals. Brushing twice daily with an age-appropriate amount of fluoride toothpaste, with parents helping until about age seven or eight, is key. Baby teeth matter: they hold space for adult teeth, help with eating and speech, and decay in baby teeth can cause pain and infection. Ask what preventive steps the dentist recommends for your child.

Growth, bite and when to involve specialists

A children's dentist also watches how the teeth and jaws develop. Early signs of crowding, crossbites, thumb-sucking effects, mouth breathing or teeth coming in out of order can be spotted at routine visits. Many orthodontists suggest an assessment around age seven, when early problems are easier to guide. Ask whether the clinic can arrange an orthodontic opinion when needed. A child-friendly clinic does not have to look like a playground; what matters more is a calm, welcoming team, clear explanations and time set aside for children. Knowing which cases need a paediatric dentist or orthodontist is a sign of good judgement.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
