Hair filler in Dubai — what hair filler injections are and how they compare with PRP

Hair filler has become a popular search term, and many people are unsure whether it is the same as facial filler, whether it actually regrows hair and how it compares with PRP. The answer depends on why your hair is thinning in the first place.

Hair filler in Dubai — Manhal Medical Center, Dubai
Quick answer

Hair filler is a scalp injection treatment, usually combining hyaluronic acid with peptides and other growth-supporting ingredients, used to support thinning hair; its evidence base is still more limited than PRP or established medicines. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis diagnoses the cause of hair loss first and advises whether hair filler, PRP or medical treatment suits you.

Key facts

  • Hair filler combines hyaluronic acid with peptides and nutrients
  • It does not add volume like facial filler
  • Evidence is still more limited than for PRP or medicines
  • Diagnosis of the hair loss cause comes first
  • Results are reviewed with photos after 3–6 months

What hair filler actually is

Despite the name, hair filler does not fill the scalp or add volume like facial filler. The term usually refers to injectable products containing hyaluronic acid combined with biomimetic peptides, vitamins, amino acids and other ingredients intended to support the hair follicle environment. They are injected into the scalp in small amounts over the thinning areas during a course of sessions. Some products are marketed specifically for hair loss under different brand names. The aim is to reduce shedding, improve hair density and support follicles that are miniaturising, rather than to create new follicles where they have been lost completely.

Evidence compared with PRP and medicines

Research on hair filler products is growing, but studies are generally smaller and shorter than those for established treatments. Platelet-rich plasma, prepared from your own blood, has a larger body of published evidence for pattern hair loss, though results also vary between individuals. Medicines such as topical or oral minoxidil and, for suitable men, finasteride remain the foundation of treatment for androgenetic alopecia. Dr. Abdullah Anis explains this evidence openly so you can make an informed choice, and often recommends combining an injection-based treatment with medical therapy rather than relying on injections alone.

Who may benefit

Hair filler and PRP are generally considered for early to moderate pattern thinning in men and women, or for diffuse thinning once other causes have been addressed. They are less likely to help where follicles have been lost for many years or in scarring hair loss, where the priority is to stop inflammation. Before any injection treatment, Dr. Abdullah Anis examines the scalp, may use trichoscopy and arranges blood tests when needed to check for iron deficiency, thyroid problems or other causes. Treating the actual cause is essential, because no injection will compensate for an untreated medical trigger.

Sessions and what to expect

A course usually involves several sessions spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions depending on the response. Each session takes a short time and uses fine needles; mild tenderness, small bumps or pinpoint bleeding at injection sites are common and settle quickly. Shedding should be monitored over months rather than weeks, because hair grows slowly; changes are usually assessed with standardised photos after three to six months. Avoiding hair dye and harsh treatments for a few days after each session is commonly advised. Results vary, and no injection can promise a specific degree of regrowth.

Patients from Sharjah and practical points

Many people searching for hair filler in Sharjah travel to central Dubai in Dubai, between Al Wasl Road and Sheikh Zayed Road, for a dermatologist-led assessment, combining sessions with follow-up reviews. Bring a list of current medicines and any previous blood tests or hair treatments. Seek review sooner if you notice sudden patchy hair loss, scalp pain, redness, scaling or pus, which may indicate an inflammatory or infectious cause that needs different treatment. Hair loss after illness, childbirth or rapid weight loss also benefits from medical assessment before choosing a cosmetic injection.

Hair loss can come from genetics, hormones, iron or thyroid issues, stress, scalp inflammation or autoimmune alopecia. A dermatologist identifies the type before recommending treatment.

Patients visit us from Al Safa, Al Wasl, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz, City Walk, Business Bay, Downtown Dubai and Al Barsha — and from Sharjah and the wider UAE.

Is hair filler the same as facial filler?

No. Hair filler is a scalp injection aimed at supporting follicles; it does not add volume to the scalp like facial filler does to the face.

Is hair filler better than PRP?

Current evidence for PRP is larger, while research on hair filler is still developing. The right choice depends on your diagnosis and preferences.

How many hair filler sessions are needed?

Usually a course of several sessions a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance depending on response.

Can hair filler regrow a bald area?

It is unlikely to restore hair where follicles have been lost for many years. It is aimed at thinning areas with remaining follicles.

Are there side effects?

Temporary tenderness, small bumps and minor bleeding at injection points are common. Allergic or infectious reactions are uncommon but possible.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
