Medical facial in Dubai — dermatologist-led deep cleansing and exfoliation vs spa facials

Many people search for deep facial cleansing or face cleaning in Dubai because of clogged pores, blackheads or skin that looks tired from heat, humidity and sunscreen build-up. The difference between a relaxing spa facial and a medical facial lies in assessment, ingredients and the ability to treat underlying skin conditions.

Medical facial in Dubai — Manhal Medical Center, Dubai
Quick answer

A medical facial is a skin treatment planned around a skin assessment, using medical-grade deep cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and, where suitable, hydra-dermabrasion or light peels to address concerns such as congestion, acne-prone skin or dullness. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, medical facials are supervised by Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis, who matches the treatment to your skin.

Key facts

  • Starts with a skin assessment, not a fixed menu
  • Includes cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and hydra-dermabrasion
  • Suits acne-prone, congested, pigmented or sensitive skin
  • Can be combined with prescription treatment when needed
  • Daily sunscreen is essential after exfoliation in the UAE

What makes a facial medical

A medical facial starts with an assessment of your skin type, concerns, current products and any skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, melasma or eczema. This determines which steps are suitable and which should be avoided. Treatment typically includes thorough cleansing, controlled exfoliation, careful extractions and products chosen for your skin rather than a fixed menu. Because the clinic is dermatologist-led, a facial can be combined with medical care when needed, such as prescription creams for acne or pigmentation. Medical facials aim to improve skin health and support treatment plans, not only to provide a pleasant experience.

Deep exfoliation and cleansing options

Several methods can be used to deeply cleanse and exfoliate the skin. Deep-cleansing hydra-dermabrasion facials use a device that combines exfoliation, gentle suction to clear pores and infusion of hydrating serums, often called a hydra-facial. Light chemical peels with ingredients such as salicylic, glycolic or lactic acid loosen dead skin cells and help congested or dull skin. Manual extractions remove blackheads and closed comedones when done carefully. The choice depends on skin sensitivity, active acne, pigmentation tendency and recent treatments such as retinoids, which can make the skin more reactive.

Spa facial or medical facial: who needs which

A spa facial can be a pleasant way to relax and maintain healthy skin if you have no particular concerns. A medical facial is more appropriate if you have acne-prone or congested skin, pigmentation, sensitivity, rosacea, or are using prescription skincare, because these situations need adjustments to avoid irritation or flares. People preparing for an event, or who want facials to complement treatments such as laser or peels, also benefit from a medically planned approach. Dr. Abdullah Anis can advise when a facial is helpful and when a skin condition needs medical treatment first.

What to expect during and after

Most medical facials take around an hour, depending on the steps involved. The skin may look slightly pink for a few hours afterwards, particularly after extractions or peels, and mild flaking can occur for a few days after exfoliating treatments. It is usually advised to avoid heavy makeup, saunas, intense exercise and strong active ingredients such as retinoids for a short period, and to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen diligently, which is essential in the UAE. Many people choose a series of facials every four to six weeks as part of a skin maintenance plan.

When to avoid a facial and when to see a doctor

Facials are usually postponed if you have an active cold sore, a skin infection, open wounds, a significant eczema flare or very inflamed acne, or if you have recently had isotretinoin treatment, which makes the skin fragile. Tell the team about pregnancy, medicines and recent cosmetic procedures. If your main concern is persistent acne, painful cysts, rapidly changing pigmentation or a mole that has changed, a medical consultation is the right first step. Seek prompt advice if you develop swelling, blistering, intense burning or signs of infection after any facial treatment.

A HydraFacial combines cleansing, gentle exfoliation, extraction and hydrating serums in one session with no downtime.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
