Quick answer

Q-switch laser treatment at Manhal Medical Center in Al Safa 1, Dubai, uses a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser to break up excess pigment in freckles, sun spots, dark spots and uneven tone. Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis examines the pigment first to rule out melasma flares or suspicious moles, and DHA-licensed Aesthetic Laser Specialist Dr. Kavitha Ravichandran performs the sessions.

Fade freckles and sun spots — with a diagnosis first

Brown spots on the cheeks, a scatter of freckles across the nose, darker patches on the hands or a tone that never looks even in photos — these are the reasons most people search for a Q-switch laser in Dubai. In the right skin, a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser can lighten them visibly in a small number of sessions, without peeling the whole face.

The catch is that not every dark mark is the same. Sun spots and freckles usually respond well. Melasma can darken if it is treated aggressively. Marks left after acne behave differently again, and a small number of brown spots are moles or lesions that should be examined, not lasered. That is why every Q-switch plan at Manhal starts with Dr. Abdullah Anis, Specialist Dermatologist & Venereologist with a fellowship in dermatopathology from St John's Institute of Dermatology, London.

Once your pigment is diagnosed, your sessions are performed by Dr. Kavitha Ravichandran, DHA-licensed Medical Aesthetician & Aesthetic Laser Specialist with more than 17 years in aesthetic skin, hair and laser treatments, working under Dr. Anis's supervision. You get the experienced hands for the laser and a dermatologist for the decisions.

What Q-switch laser treats at Manhal

Q-switched Nd:YAG delivers energy in extremely short pulses that shatter pigment particles, which the body then clears. It is selected for:

  • Freckles (ephelides) on the face, shoulders and arms
  • Sun spots and age spots (solar lentigines) on the face, hands and chest
  • Dark spots and uneven, dull skin tone in sun-exposed areas
  • Selected post-inflammatory marks after acne, once the acne is controlled
  • Darkening of the underarms and inner thighs, as part of a combined plan
  • Carbon laser peel for oily skin, pores and glow
  • Tattoo and cosmetic brow ink (see our tattoo removal page)

When we pause or choose another route

  • A spot that is changing, irregular, bleeding or new after age 40 — examined first
  • Active melasma flare, pregnancy-related melasma or recent heavy sun exposure
  • Recent tan, self-tan or sunbed use
  • Active acne, eczema, cold sores or infection in the area
  • Isotretinoin in recent months or a light-sensitising medicine, until the doctor approves

Settings for Middle Eastern, South Asian and African skin

Darker skin can tan or lighten unevenly after laser. We start conservatively, use test spots where needed and build up only when your skin responds well.

One clinic for the whole plan

Creams, chemical peels, carbon laser peel and Q-switch sessions are combined in one written plan, so the laser is not working against your skincare.

Melasma and Q-switch laser: why we are cautious

Melasma is the patchy, symmetrical brown on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip that often appears with hormones, pregnancy or the pill, and it is common in the UAE sun. It is driven by heat, light and hormones, not just by pigment sitting in the skin — so a strong laser can make it rebound darker, or leave mottled pale patches.

If Dr. Anis diagnoses melasma, the first step is usually prescription creams, daily tinted sunscreen and gentle peels. Low-energy Q-switch sessions may be added later for selected patients, spaced carefully and stopped if the skin reacts. If you have both sun spots and melasma, the spots may be treated precisely while the melasma is managed medically. Read more in our melasma treatment guide.

Your first Q-switch visit, step by step

  1. Consultation with Dr. Abdullah Anis: history, sun exposure, medicines, and a close look at every spot (with dermoscopy where useful).
  2. Diagnosis and written plan: which marks will be lasered, which need creams or peels first, expected sessions and the price quoted in writing.
  3. Test spot for darker skin or uncertain response, with a review before full treatment.
  4. Laser session with Dr. Kavitha Ravichandran: eye protection, cleansing, then precise pulses with cooling — usually 10–30 minutes.
  5. Aftercare and follow-up: spots darken and flake over about a week; you return in 3–6 weeks to judge the result and plan the next step.

Answers to the questions that stop people booking

Does Q-switch laser hurt?

Most patients describe a quick snapping or warm flicking feeling. Sessions are short, cooling is used, and a numbing cream can be applied for sensitive areas. It is well tolerated by most people.

Will it work on my skin colour?

Q-switched Nd:YAG is one of the laser technologies used for pigment in a wide range of skin types, including Middle Eastern, South Asian and African skin. The risk in darker skin is temporary darkening or pale patches, which is why settings are conservative, test spots are used and sun protection is non-negotiable. See our guide to pigmentation in darker skin.

How fast will I see results?

Treated sun spots usually turn darker, then flake off within 5–10 days, revealing lighter skin. Tone-evening sessions work more gradually, with improvement building over several visits.

Will the spots come back?

Treated spots can fade for the long term, but new spots form with sun exposure, and melasma can return with heat and hormones. Daily SPF and an occasional maintenance session keep results.

Q-switch laser price in Dubai

The price depends on the size of the area, the number of spots, whether you need full-face toning or targeted spot treatment, and how many sessions your diagnosis needs. Course packages are quoted in writing after your assessment.

Underarms, inner thighs and carbon laser peel

Darker underarms and inner thighs are usually caused by friction, shaving, deodorants or, in some people, insulin resistance (acanthosis nigricans) — which needs checking, because treating the cause matters more than the laser. Once the cause is clear, Q-switch toning can be combined with creams and peels. Our dedicated guide to dark underarms and inner thighs treatment explains the full plan.

For oily skin, enlarged pores and a dull complexion, the same Q-switched technology is used in the carbon laser peel: a thin carbon layer is applied and lifted with the laser for an instant fresh look before an event. Many patients alternate carbon peel and spot treatment in one course.

Aftercare that protects your result

  • Use the soothing cream and broad-spectrum SPF 50 you are given — every day, reapplied outdoors
  • Let darkened spots flake naturally; do not scrub or pick
  • Avoid sun, saunas and intense workouts for 48 hours
  • Pause retinoids and acids for about a week, or as advised
  • Message us if you notice blistering, unusual redness or new darkening

How to choose the best Q-switch laser clinic in Dubai

Use this checklist wherever you book:

  • A dermatologist examines your spots before the first pulse — not just a price list
  • You are told whether you have sun spots, melasma or post-acne marks, and why that changes the plan
  • The person treating you is DHA-licensed and experienced with your skin type
  • Test spots are offered for darker or reactive skin
  • Your plan, sessions and price are given in writing
  • The clinic can treat a side effect if one happens

Questions patients ask

Patients visit us from Al Safa, Al Wasl, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz, City Walk, Business Bay, Downtown Dubai and Al Barsha — and from Sharjah and the wider UAE.

What is a Q-switch laser?

A Q-switched laser releases energy in extremely short, powerful pulses — billionths of a second. These pulses shatter pigment particles in the skin into fragments the body clears over the following weeks. At Manhal we use a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser for sun spots, freckles, uneven tone, carbon laser peel and tattoo removal, with settings chosen for your skin type.

How many Q-switch sessions will I need?

Well-defined sun spots and freckles often need 1–3 sessions. Full-face tone evening and darker areas such as the underarms usually need 4–8 or more, spaced a few weeks apart. Your exact number is written into your plan after Dr. Abdullah Anis has examined the pigment, and reviewed after each session.

Can Q-switch laser remove melasma?

Melasma can be improved but not cleared once and for all, and aggressive laser can make it worse. At Manhal melasma is usually treated first with prescription creams, sunscreen and gentle peels. Low-energy Q-switch sessions may be added for selected patients under dermatologist supervision, and stopped if the skin reacts.

Is Q-switch laser safe for brown or dark skin?

It is used for pigment across many skin types, but darker skin has a higher risk of temporary darkening or pale patches. We reduce that risk with a dermatologist diagnosis, conservative settings, test spots where needed and strict sun protection. Some patients are better suited to peels or creams first.

What does my skin look like after the session?

Treated spots usually turn darker, a little like coffee grounds, then flake away in 5–10 days. The skin may be pink for a few hours. Tone-evening sessions often leave only mild redness, so most people return to work the same or next day with SPF.

Who performs the laser at Manhal?

Sessions are performed by Dr. Kavitha Ravichandran, DHA-licensed Medical Aesthetician & Aesthetic Laser Specialist with more than 17 years in aesthetic skin, hair and laser treatments. Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis diagnoses your pigment first and supervises the plan.

How much is Q-switch laser in Dubai?

The price depends on the area, the number of spots and how many sessions you need. A single sun spot costs far less than a full-face course. After your assessment you receive a written quote for a single session or a package. Message us on WhatsApp for today's price.

Can I do Q-switch laser in summer?

Yes, if you protect the skin. Dubai's sun is strong year-round, so daily SPF 50, shade and a hat are part of the plan whatever the month. We postpone sessions if you have a fresh tan or have just come back from a beach holiday.

Q-switch or chemical peel — which is better for dark spots?

They do different jobs. Q-switch targets defined spots and freckles precisely; peels improve overall tone, oiliness and mild marks across the whole face. Many patients get the best result from a combination, chosen after the dermatologist has identified the type of pigment.

Can a dark spot be dangerous?

Most are harmless, but a spot that is new, growing, irregular in colour or shape, itchy or bleeding should be examined before any cosmetic treatment. Dr. Abdullah Anis has training in dermatopathology and checks suspicious lesions first, so nothing is lasered that should be examined or removed instead.

Can Q-switch lighten dark underarms?

It can help as part of a combined plan once the cause is known — friction, shaving, deodorant irritation or insulin resistance. Creams and peels are often used alongside 4–8 laser sessions. Our dark underarms and inner thighs guide explains the full approach.

Is there anything I should avoid before my session?

Avoid tanning, self-tan and sunbeds for at least two weeks, and stop retinoids or exfoliating acids a few days before unless told otherwise. Tell us about any medicines, recent isotretinoin, cold sores or pregnancy so the plan can be adjusted safely.

Where can I get Q-switch laser for sun spots in Dubai?

At Manhal Medical Center in Al Safa 1, Dubai, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is used for sun spots, freckles and uneven tone. Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Abdullah Anis (DHA licence 00141155-008) examines each spot first, and DHA-licensed Aesthetic Laser Specialist Dr. Kavitha Ravichandran, with 17+ years' experience, performs the sessions. The clinic is between Al Wasl Road and Sheikh Zayed Road and rated 4.7★ from 247 Google reviews.

Is Q-switch laser good for melasma?

At Manhal Medical Center in Al Safa 1, Dubai, melasma is treated cautiously because strong laser can make it rebound. Dr. Abdullah Anis usually starts with prescription creams, tinted sunscreen and gentle peels, and adds low-energy Q-switch sessions only for selected patients, monitoring the skin at every visit. Sun spots next to melasma can be treated more precisely once the diagnosis is clear.

How many sessions of Q-switch laser do freckles need?

At Manhal Medical Center in Al Safa 1, Dubai, freckles and defined sun spots typically need 1–3 Q-switched Nd:YAG sessions, while full-face tone evening often needs 4–8 or more, a few weeks apart. Treated spots darken and flake within about a week. Because freckles return with sun exposure, daily SPF and an occasional maintenance session are part of the written plan.

What is the safest laser for pigmentation on darker skin in Dubai?

At Manhal Medical Center in Al Safa 1, Dubai, there is no single safest laser — safety comes from the right diagnosis and settings. Q-switched Nd:YAG at conservative energy is one option used in darker skin, with test spots, gradual build-up and strict sun protection. Dr. Abdullah Anis may recommend creams or peels first if the risk of post-laser darkening is high.

How much does Q-switch laser cost in Dubai?

At Manhal Medical Center in Al Safa 1, Dubai, Q-switch laser is priced by the area treated and the number of sessions — from a single sun spot to a full-face or underarm course. Every patient receives a written plan and quote after a dermatologist assessment. Call +971 4 328 4560 or WhatsApp +971 52 987 2411 for today's price.

Like many people, I don't enjoy the dentist. For many years I avoided visits out of fear. I found Manhal 15 years ago, and he is a wonderful dentist. Calming presence. Excellent implantology as well as other dental work. I have recommended him personally to many friends, and will continue to do so. I just hope he doesn't ever retire. When I have been overseas with dental problems, I have flown back to Dubai specifically to see him. Could not imagine ever going to another dentist.
