Front teeth only braces: when short anterior alignment is appropriate
Many adults are mainly bothered by one or two crooked front teeth, or by teeth that have shifted since braces as a teenager. A shorter, front-teeth-focused treatment sounds appealing, and it can be a good option — as long as the bite behind those teeth is healthy.

Front teeth only braces or aligners straighten the visible front teeth without changing the back teeth or the overall bite, and can suit mild crowding, spacing or relapse after earlier treatment. They cannot correct significant bite problems. At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, Consultant Orthodontist Dr. Moaiyad Pacha checks the whole bite first so that a short treatment is only chosen when it is genuinely appropriate.
Key facts
- Straightens visible front teeth without changing the bite
- Suits mild crowding, spacing or relapse
- Cannot correct deep bites, crossbites or jaw-width problems
- Often shorter than comprehensive treatment
- Long-term retainers are essential
What anterior-only alignment means
Anterior-only or 'social six' treatment focuses on the front teeth that show when you smile, usually the six upper and/or six lower teeth from canine to canine. It can be done with clear aligners or with fixed braces on the front teeth. The aim is cosmetic alignment: straightening mild crowding, closing small spaces, correcting slight rotations or improving teeth that have relapsed after earlier orthodontic treatment. Because the back teeth are not actively moved, the way the upper and lower jaws meet stays essentially the same. This is the key point: short treatment changes how the front teeth line up, not how the bite fits together.
When it can be appropriate
Front-teeth-only treatment can suit adults whose back teeth already fit together well, whose problem is limited to mild crowding or spacing at the front, and who are happy with their overall bite and profile. It is often considered for relapse after childhood braces, where lower front teeth have become slightly crowded over the years, or for small gaps. It can also be used to position front teeth ideally before veneers or crowns, sometimes reducing the amount of tooth preparation needed. Healthy gums and bone support are essential. Dr. Pacha examines the teeth, gums, bite and jaw joints, and takes a digital scan and X-rays where needed, before recommending it.
Limits on bite correction
Short anterior treatment cannot correct a deep bite, open bite, crossbite, large overjet, underbite or a jaw-width problem, because these involve the back teeth and sometimes the jaws themselves. Trying to straighten crowded front teeth without enough space, or without addressing a bite problem, can push teeth forward, put stress on the gums or leave the bite unstable. For example, if the lower front teeth are crowded because of a deep bite, aligning them alone may make them collide with the upper teeth. In those cases, comprehensive treatment gives a more stable result. Dr. Pacha explains honestly whether a short treatment will deliver what you want or whether full treatment is wiser.
Typical duration and how space is made
Because only the front teeth are moved and movements are small, anterior-only treatment is often shorter than comprehensive treatment, commonly a number of months rather than years, although duration depends on the case and is estimated after assessment. To create space for mild crowding, a small amount of interproximal reduction (careful polishing between teeth) is often used, sometimes with slight arch rounding. Clear aligners are planned digitally from an intraoral scan and usually need about 22 hours of daily wear. With fixed braces on the front teeth, adjustments are made at regular visits. In both cases, progress is checked to make sure the bite is not being disturbed.
Retention: keeping the result
Front teeth, especially lower front teeth, are among the most likely to drift back after treatment, which is often why people seek anterior treatment in the first place. Retention is therefore essential. Options include a thin bonded retainer wire behind the front teeth, a removable clear retainer worn at night, or both. Dr. Pacha discusses which suits you and how long to wear it; long-term night-time wear is usually advised. Retainers should be checked at regular dental visits. Contact the clinic promptly if a bonded retainer comes loose or a removable retainer cracks or no longer fits, as teeth can begin to move within weeks without retention.
Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of removable, nearly invisible aligners made from a 3D scan. You can take them out to eat and clean, and progress is planned digitally from the first visit.

Can I straighten just my front teeth?
Often yes, if your back teeth fit well and the problem is mild crowding or spacing. The full bite is checked first.
How long does front teeth only treatment take?
Often a number of months, depending on the movements needed. A timeline is estimated after assessment.
Can front-teeth-only aligners fix my overbite?
No. Overbites and other bite problems involve the back teeth or jaws and need comprehensive treatment.
Will I need IPR?
Often a small amount is used to create space for mild crowding, planned within safe limits.
Do I need a retainer after short treatment?
Yes. Front teeth relapse easily, so long-term retainers are recommended.

Can I get braces on just my front teeth in Dubai?
Yes, in suitable cases — Consultant Orthodontist Dr. Moaiyad Pacha at Manhal Medical Center in Dubai offers front-teeth-only aligners or braces when the back teeth already fit well and crowding or spacing is mild. He checks the full bite first. Retainers are needed afterwards.
My front teeth moved after childhood braces — is a short aligner treatment enough?
Often it can be, and Dr. Moaiyad Pacha at Manhal Medical Center in Dubai assesses whether relapse is limited to the front teeth or the bite has also changed. Short aligner treatment with a small amount of IPR may be suitable. Long-term retention prevents it happening again.
What can't front-teeth-only orthodontics fix?
Dr. Moaiyad Pacha at Manhal Medical Center in Dubai explains that anterior-only treatment cannot correct deep bites, open bites, crossbites, underbites, large overjets or narrow jaws. These need comprehensive treatment. Straightening front teeth without addressing them can make results unstable.
How long does it take to straighten only the front teeth with aligners?
At Manhal Medical Center in Dubai, Dr. Moaiyad Pacha usually estimates a number of months for anterior-only aligner treatment, depending on how much the teeth need to move. A precise estimate follows the examination and digital scan. Retainers follow.
